This was the first bread recipe I tried when I baked my very first loaf. I had no experience, had never kneaded bread before, and I found this to be one of the easiest recipes to make if you’ve never kneaded bread and want to give it a try. It’s a very easy dough to work with, you’ll see that once you try it!

The only problem with this bread is that it never lasts, it’s gone before you know it! That’s why I recommend making two loaves. If you do, mix and knead each dough separately rather than doubling the recipe in one bowl.
Can I use an electric mixer for this bread recipe?
Yes, you can absolutely use one. I’ve done it myself, but I still prefer kneading by hand. I feel the dough turns out better that way. And trust me, this dough is very easy to work with! The kneading takes only about 7 minutes in total.

Sandwich Bread Ingredients
(For 1 loaf – 9×5 inch or 23×13 cm)
- 300 g all-purpose or bread flour
- 10 g sugar
- 6 g salt
- 3 g yeast (active yeast)
- 90 ml (90g) water (warm, not hot)
- 90 ml milk (90g) (warm, not hot)
- 30 g unsalted butter
Milk: Acts as a natural softener for the bread crumb, making it tender.
Butter: Adds softness, aroma, and gives the crust a beautiful golden color.
Sugar: Yeast feeds on sugars, but since flour already contains natural sugars, the added sugar here helps the bread stay fresh longer and makes the crust softer. If you skip the sugar, you’ll notice something is missing in the flavor.

How to Make Sandwich Bread
1- In a bowl, combine all the dry ingredients. Gradually add the warm water and milk (make sure they’re warm, not cold or hot). Then add the melted butter. Mix well until you get a smooth and uniform dough. Cover it with a kitchen towel and let it rest for about 10 minutes.

2- After resting, place the dough on your countertop. Stretch part of it, fold it over itself, and roll it gently with the heel of your hand by pushing the dough forward, then fold it again, and repeat the process. Knead it for about 5 minutes. At first, the dough may stick a little, but soon it will become soft, elastic, and easy to handle. This dough is very easy to work with!

3- After kneading for about 5 minutes, cover the dough with a towel and let it rest for another 5 minutes, preferably in a warm place (not too cold). The dough ferments better in a slightly warm environment. You can even let it rest inside the microwave (turned off).

4- After the short rest, knead the dough again for about 2 minutes. And then place it in the bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rise for 1½ to 2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
5- Once it has risen, place the dough on the counter and gently press it to release the air. Then fold in the sides and begin rolling it into a cylinder. As you roll, seal the dough with your thumbs each time you fold, this helps prevent holes inside the loaf once baked.

6- Place the shaped dough into a greased 9×5-inch (23×13 cm) loaf pan. Cover it and let it rise again for about 2 hours, or until it has grown significantly in size.

7- Brush the top with milk and bake at 430°F (220°C) for about 25 minutes, or until the crust is beautifully golden. Keep in mind that baking time may vary depending on your oven. Some may need a few minutes more or less, so keep an eye on it near the end of baking.

8- Once baked, remove the loaf from the pan and let it cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.

Ingredients
- 300 g all-purpose or bread flour
- 10 g sugar
- 6 g salt
- 3 g active yeast
- 90 ml water warm, not hot
- 90 ml milk warm, not hot
- 30 g unsalted butter
Instructions
Mix the ingredients
- In a bowl, combine the dry ingredients. Add the warm water, warm milk, and melted butter. Mix until smooth and uniform. Cover and rest for 10 minutes.
Knead the dough
- Turn the dough onto your countertop. Stretch part of it, fold it over itself, and roll it gently with the heel of your hand by pushing the dough forward. Do this for about 5 minutes.
Let it rest
- Once kneaded cover and let rest for 5 minutes.
First rise
- Knead for another 2 minutes, then place the dough in a bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot (inside the microwave turned off works great) for 1½-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
Shape the dough
- Once the dough has risen, place it on the counter and gently press it to release the air. Fold in the sides, then start rolling it into a cylinder. As you roll, seal the dough with your thumbs each time you fold (this helps prevent holes inside the loaf once baked).
Second rise
- Place in a greased 9×5-inch (23×13 cm)loaf pan. Cover and let rise again for 2 hours, or until it has puffed up and increased noticeably in size.
Bake
- Brush the top of the dough with milk and bake at 430℉ (220℃) for 25 minutes, or until the crust is golden.
Cool before slicing
- Remove from the pan and cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.
